Boys Varsity Swimming at IHSAA Sectionals - Prelims

The Muncie Burris Owls boys swim team had an amazing performance at the Sectionals prelims session on Thursday, highlighted by having five individual swimmers qualify for eight individual events in the finals.

Burris swimmers returning for finals include: junior Brenton Shrock, who placed 13th in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 2:04.32; freshman Henry Cooper, who placed 16th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:32.17; senior Josh Sander, who placed 8th in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 24.30; senior Matthew Minnich placed 10th in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 53.94; freshman Gage Palilonis placed 13th in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:53.64; Sander also placed 11th in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:03.23; Minnich also placed 4th in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:06.66; and Shrock also placed 10th in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:10.27.

The 200 Medley Relay team of Sander-Minnich-Ring-Childs is seeded 7th going into finals, with a time of 1:54.36, a season best for the squad. Next, the 200 Freestyle Relay team of Herwehe-Kreider-Meredith-Roberts is seeded 10th with the time of 2:07.14. Lastly, the 400 Freestyle Relay team of Childs-Shrock-Minnich-Sander is seeded 7th for finals with a time of 3:48.23, a season best by over 10 seconds!

Additionally, nearly every other member of the team dropped time on their personal bests, including a 15+ second drop for junior Thomas Lumpkin.

Finals for Sectionals are this Saturday at Jay County High School, and starts at 1:00 P.M.
